Extended Housing

Extended Housing, Inc.

Extended Housing’s mission is to support individuals with severe and persistent mental illness to live as independently as possible by creating, developing and sustaining safe, decent, affordable housing options. With over 30 years’ experience, Extended Housing is able to provide the necessary support, rental assistance, and the choice of multiple housing locations and unit sizes throughout Lake County to help ensure a successful tenancy.

Our housing options include apartment complexes, single homes, condominiums, group homes, supportive housing, and a transitional complex. When an applicant comes to the top of our waiting list they are offered either an Outside Subsidy or residency in one of the Extended Housing units. This depends on which subsidy has become available. The outside subsidy enables an applicant to secure housing with an outside landlord. Choosing one of our units includes a subsidy.

Extended Housing provides exceptional customer service with a 24/7 maintenance team, the housing support team, 24/7 answering service, as well as our office staff. We work in conjunction with the mental health providers in Lake County, Project Hope for the Homeless, The Lake County ADAHMS Board and various other organizations as we are contacted.

Our Homeless Outreach Team reaches out into the community to help homeless individuals with mental illness secure services with the community mental health agencies. Our PATH team (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) visits the parks, the library, the Salvation Army, events held for the homeless, to make contact with the homeless population. The team will also reach out on a call in basis. Calls may be received from churches, individuals who are familiar with the team, other agencies, and local police departments.

McKinley Grove Apartments

Our newest site, McKinley Grove Apartments has been operating now for two years. Our newest addition to McKinley Grove Apartments is Phase 2 of the McKinley Grove Community Garden. Last year through Leadership Lake County and the Lubrizol Corporation and other local support, Phase 1 was completed. Phase 1 was the fencing in of the area, one half of the raised beds needed to begin cultivating, the creation of a picnic area and a walkway to the garden area. Phase 2 was completed with the help of the Painesville Rotary Club. The beds are now completed and include 2 ADA accessible beds. We look forward to our residents having the opportunity to enjoy using this garden area. Phase 3 will include a small greenhouse, a wooden shed, and the opportunity to begin a social enterprise, which at this time will be named “The Victory Garden”.

Their motto will be “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”. Audrey Hepburn
