New Directions for Living

The mission of New Directions for Living is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in need of transitional housing. We provide quality housing facilities and self-sufficiency programs that promote self-reliance and independent living in a caring and supportive environment.

New Directions for Living has been providing transitional housing in Lake County for more than 30 years. The program teaches individuals skills for self-sufficiency. Once a client completes our 18-month program they will have acquired the skills for independent living.

New Directions for Living’s housing program provides a safe and stable home in a supportive environment. Participants in the program work closely with professional staff to help identify barriers that led to homelessness. Individual Service Plans are tailored to meet each client’s unique needs to help them move forward. Although every Service Plan is different, each plan has one common goal—Independent Housing.

Program participants are taught budgeting skills and are required to save money.

Clients who save according to their budget plan leave with a “nest egg” with sufficient income to move on to their permanent home. By using their own savings—our clients are empowered to choose where they want to live.
