Who We Are

The Coalition for Housing and Support Services of Lake County was originally founded to help local agencies and non-profit organizations address the needs of the homeless.  During the first few years after 2000, as the local economy expanded, its focus changed as many issues surrounding fair housing, housing discrimination and programs designed to help more citizens move from renting to home ownership needed to be addressed.
As the local economy began to contract with the recession beginning in 2008, affordable housing and foreclosures and evictions became pressing issues.  Again, the Coalition stepped up to the plate to help local residents.  Because of the seriousness of the situation and the increased demands for help, Coalition members recognized two distinct needs: addressing the issues caused by the real estate crisis and, giving more focus to the growing number of homeless.
In 2009, the Coalition recommended that its members whose organizations primarily work with the homeless should follow HUD's requirement and create a Continuum of Care.  The Continuum of Care, with the support of the Lake County Commissioners, was formed specifically to address homelessness in our county.  To learn more about the Continuum and its 10 Year Plan to Address Homelessness in Lake County, you can visit their website at www.homeisinsight.org.
